The bigger picture
Many forum engines allow you to include images in your posting. On the face of it, that’s quite a good thing – a picture can often paint a thousand words, it’s nice to be able to put a face to a name, and all that. However…
Large images often force a page to expand to the right. Sometimes this can mean that the page becomes too big for smaller monitors (or rather page resolutions), causing a horizontal scrollbar to appear. In extreme cases the reader may have to scroll from left to right just to read forum postings. Anything more than about 400 pixels wide, and readers using 800 x 600 screen resolution will have to scroll sideways; anything more than 600, and you’ll start forcing readers using 1024 x 768 to do it as well.
So keep the size down if you can – and if you can’t, then consider posting a link to your image instead.
