It's the same on a discussion forum. It's very tedious to have to read or scroll through the same darned thing time and time again. Sometimes the post will be a great long screed which is longer than the reply, especially if the reply is only to say, "I agree" or something similar. Quote sparingly and only when necessary.

Sorry I didn't see this earlier, David - I'm not sure why the system didn't notify me. Anyway, I'll cover it in an entry soon.

A mailing list gripe...

Why is it that people don't edit their responses to posts to include only the part they are responding to? Typically, this happens from so-called "top posters".

1. It doesn't look very neat.
2. You have to read *down* to find out what the person is talking about.
3. It makes the e-mail much larger than it needs to be, especially if this is a response to a response to a response to a response, and so on.

More forum gripes from me. You've already said in one of your postings that the golden rule is, "if you don't like it here you are free to go elsewhere".

This seems fair enough to me, so why do twits frequently threaten to go elsewhere unless you change things to suit them? GO! We don't care. Just go.

The same twit also did his Dad no favours when he shouted out, "Father!" at an inappropriate moment.

That said, the film was quite watchable.

Yes; which is one reason why it's so important to read the guidelines. I'm sure there would be a lot fewer unpleasant arguments on fora if only people thought to check out the rules before wading in.

In the days before we had broadband some twit sent me, by email attachment, the entire contents of her photo album. I couldn't receive other emails for hours and hours while these blasted photos were being downloaded.

I know now that there are other ways to deal with this, eg deleting them from the server and not downloading them at all. But the point remains - doing this kind of thing can lead to tears of anger and frustration from the hapless recipient.

On a similar point, these "forward to all your friends" things are a real pain too. Perhaps a subject for a future posting?

I totally agree. However, I think that part of the problem lies in a subject you covered earlier. People don't take the time to read the posting guidelines and so may be unaware that things are done differently on ABC Forum from some other place.
